Project Description:
K House is a three-story concrete residence designed and built in Vinh, Nghe An—a region characterized by a harsh climate featuring scorching "Lao winds," cold, dry winters, and frequent storms. The homeowners desired a simple, sustainable, and comfortable—yet unpretentious—home that harmonizes with the Central region's lifestyle and natural environment. The house accommodates a family of four: middle-aged parents with a passion for gardening and their two children. To mitigate the impact of the intense western sun, the house is set back from the street, creating a spacious front garden and a rooftop vegetable garden. Its U-shaped layout wraps around a central bamboo garden, while corridors and staircases serve as both circulation paths and connectors between living spaces. Small gardens are interspersed among the rooms, located on balconies and the rooftop. Windows are strategically positioned to open onto these gardens, featuring diverse proportions and sizes that frame the views like paintings. Through the architecture, residents can experience the presence and beauty of nature—including sounds, light, sunshine, and rain.
The primary materials consist solely of exposed concrete, glass, and greenery. These were selected for their simplicity, their ability to showcase their inherent qualities, their durability, and their low maintenance requirements. Notably, the TOSTEM aluminum window frames retain their raw metallic finish, making them an ideal match for the exposed concrete. The bold, rugged texture of the concrete, the sleek reflectivity of glass and aluminum, and the lush green of the vegetation create a composition that is both contrasting and complementary. K House embodies the architectural philosophy of "more simple, more sustainable."
