BUILDING OF THE YEAR 2024
Project Description:
The land near the forest, at the foothill of a tea estate is a weekend home. The project uses the local typology for making outdoor social space between self-contained forms with sloped roofs. A practice of early villages and thereon evolved by the British in Coonoor when they started tea plantations. One block is for living spaces and the other for retiring at night. This creates an anchor open seating which becomes the heart of the house, overlooking the setting sun, the forested valley and mountains. This patio is set and created by the backdrop of the fragmented architecture – two blocks linked with A glass bridge. It is ambitious in its vantage cantilever view, typologically grounded, generous with sunlight in a cold climate, precise in creating views and openings, detailed for durability and with the warmth of the hand poured concrete and hand done metal roof and lime plaster.
